The best way to avoid the requiring dentures or dental implants later in life is to make sure that you are practicing the best dental hygiene methods. Routine brushing and flossing are the necessary steps to take to avoid needing serious dental work. However, sometimes they may not be enough. Even though tooth enamel is the hardest surface in the human body, once it is gone, it does not come back. Meaning, if it is gone, your teeth are forever weakened which may result in premature tooth loss or teeth that are susceptible to cavities and infections.

People with serious gum disease are much more likely to have another chronic condition in their body because the body can’t always fight infection and if left untreated, a cavity or other oral issue can wreak havoc on the body. One of the strongest connections is between periodontitis and diabetes. Periodontitis is the progressive loss of the bone around the teeth. If left untreated it can lead to tooth loss.

Another known connection between teeth and the rest of the human body is between gum disease and heart disease. Up to 95 percent of heart disease patients have gum disease. The two conditions have common risk such as smoking, diet and obesity. If inflammation in the mouth sparks inflammation in the blood vessels there is an increased risk of heart disease that could lead to a heart attack.

A person with weakened teeth may require a dental implant to fill the gap. A dental implant is a false tooth that is actually implanted into the jaw bone itself. The implant is usually made out of titanium or other lightweight, strong metal, and the jaw bone grows right around it, eventually making it more sturdy than a tooth is with its root.

Those who are looking for the best dentists for cosmetic reasons should take comfort knowing that cosmetic dentists can provide a wide range of services including porcelain veneers. And more than half of the patients looking for cosmetic dentistry services are between ages 41 and 60.

Those getting tooth correction have the option of invisible braces, porcelain veneers and crowns and Invisalign. These invisible braces are virtually undetectable and are chosen for their cosmetic appeal. Look for the best dentist in your area who will be able to handle both your medical and cosmetic dental needs. 1. I’ve been to more dentists than I can count. I only have one thing to say…I HATE DENTISTS! Some of the worst people I’ve ever had the displeasure of working with. Awful human beings.
